California has state-specific requirements for individuals seeking to work as Certified Phlebotomy Technicians. The standard A Step Above Medical Phlebotomy Training Course is not a California-approved phlebotomy training program and does not, by itself, satisfy the requirements for a California Certified Phlebotomy Technician certificate.
The NPCT certification pathway offered through A Step Above Medical is not accepted by the California Department of Public Health for California phlebotomy certification. NHA is an approved national examination provider in California, but passing the NHA examination alone is not sufficient. Applicants must also complete California's required academic and clinical training through an approved program and submit a separate application and all required documentation to the California Department of Public Health.
Until A Step Above Medical offers a California-specific program that meets these requirements, we are not scheduling public beginner-level Phlebotomy Training Courses in California.
If phlebotomy or IV therapy is already within your professional scope of practice and you need additional hands-on practice, a skills refresher, or more training than you received in school, please let us know. We are compiling an interest list for future California refresher classes and will contact interested students when there is enough demand to schedule a class.
Group Training may also be available for qualifying organizations and healthcare teams. Please contact us to discuss your team's training needs.
Completion of an A Step Above Medical course does not automatically provide national certification or a California state certificate. Examination eligibility, training acceptance, application approval, and certificate issuance are determined by the applicable examination provider and the California Department of Public Health.
