Terms & Conditions
A Step Above Medical Terms and Conditions, Version 1.0 — effective October 1, 2026.
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to registrations for open-enrollment training offered by A Step Above Medical and to the use of the A Step Above Medical website. By registering for a course, making a payment, or using the website, you agree to these Terms.
Please read these Terms before registering. If you have questions, contact A Step Above Medical at info@astepabovemed.com or 253-407-8372.
1. About A Step Above Medical
A Step Above Medical is a hands-on clinical skills training provider offering short-format Phlebotomy Training and IV Therapy Training courses.
Group Training is governed by the applicable written proposal or agreement. If a signed Group Training agreement conflicts with these Terms, the signed agreement controls for that Group Training engagement.
2. Student Eligibility and Course Prerequisites
Students must be at least 18 years old to attend.
No prior healthcare experience is required for Phlebotomy Training unless a particular class description expressly states otherwise.
IV Therapy Training requires foundational venipuncture skills. Students must review the stated prerequisites before registering. If an instructor determines that a student lacks the foundational skills needed to participate safely, the instructor may restrict or stop the student's participation. Students will not receive a certificate unless they complete all course requirements. Failure to meet a disclosed prerequisite does not entitle the student to an automatic refund or transfer. A Step Above Medical may, at its discretion, offer another training option.
3. Tuition and Payment
Phlebotomy Training
Standard Phlebotomy Training tuition is $695, except that tuition is $750 for classes held in California, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C.
A $150 nonrefundable deposit is required to reserve a seat. Pay the remaining tuition balance on the first day of class, but the student's certificate will not be issued until tuition is paid in full.
IV Therapy Training
IV Therapy Training tuition is $295 and must be paid in full at registration.
General Payment Terms
Prices shown at registration control if they differ from the general prices listed above. Registration is not complete until the required payment is successfully processed and the student receives confirmation.
Payments and transfer privileges belong to the registered student. A registration may not be given, sold, or transferred to another person without prior written approval from A Step Above Medical.
4. Student Cancellations and Refunds
Tuition and deposits are nonrefundable if a student changes their mind, cannot attend, no longer needs the training, fails to meet a disclosed prerequisite, or experiences a change in personal circumstances. The transfer options in Section 5 may still apply when the student provides notice before the scheduled class begins.
The Phlebotomy Training deposit is nonrefundable except when A Step Above Medical cancels the class, and the student chooses a refund under Section 6.
Nothing in these Terms limits a refund or cancellation right that cannot legally be waived.
5. Student-Requested Transfers
A student who cannot attend may request a transfer by notifying A Step Above Medical before the scheduled class begins. Notice may be provided by:
- Email to info@astepabovemed.com; or
- Text message or voicemail at 253-407-8372.
Notice is effective when you send the email or text, or leave the voicemail, provided it occurs before the scheduled class start time.
Each registration includes one courtesy transfer to another available class for the same course. The replacement class must be completed within six months after the original class date and is subject to availability.
For Phlebotomy Training, a second transfer is permitted only after the student pays the remaining tuition balance in full. IV Therapy Training is paid in full at registration, so an eligible IV student may also use a second transfer. A third transfer is not available as a standard student option. An administrator may approve an exception in writing at A Step Above Medical's sole discretion.
If the replacement class has higher tuition, the student must pay the difference. If it has lower tuition, A Step Above Medical will reduce any unpaid balance or refund any overpayment.
A student who does not give notice before the scheduled class begins is considered a no-show and forfeits the registration, transfer opportunity, and all tuition and fees paid. A Step Above Medical may make an exception for an emergency at its sole discretion, but exceptions are not guaranteed.
6. Cancellation or Rescheduling by A Step Above Medical
If A Step Above Medical cancels or reschedules a class, the student may choose either:
- A full refund of all amounts paid directly to A Step Above Medical for that class, including any Phlebotomy Training deposit; or
- Transfer of all amounts paid to another available class for the same course.
If A Step Above Medical transfers or reschedules a student because the company canceled or rescheduled the original class, that transfer will not count against the student's transfer opportunities under Section 5. The student will not be charged a tuition increase, even if the replacement class or city would ordinarily cost more.
A Step Above Medical may cancel, postpone, or reschedule a class because of instructor illness, unsafe conditions, severe weather, travel disruption, venue failure, government action, public emergency, or another circumstance beyond its reasonable control. The refund or transfer choices above remain available when the company cancels the class.
7. Venue Information and Changes
The exact venue and arrival instructions are generally provided approximately one week before class.
A Step Above Medical may change the venue within the advertised city or general metropolitan area. Such a change is not considered a class cancellation.
If the venue is moved outside the advertised city or general metropolitan area, the student may choose a full refund of amounts paid directly to A Step Above Medical or a transfer under the same terms that apply when A Step Above Medical cancels a class.
8. Student Travel and Other Expenses
Students are responsible for their own airfare, lodging, local transportation, parking, childcare, meals, lost wages, and other personal or third-party expenses.
A Step Above Medical is not responsible for those expenses if a class is canceled, rescheduled, relocated, delayed, or otherwise changed. Students are encouraged to use refundable or changeable travel arrangements. The company's responsibility for a company-canceled class is limited to refunding or transferring amounts paid directly to A Step Above Medical, as described in Section 6, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
9. Attendance, Lateness, Makeups, and Completion
Students must attend all required course hours, complete required skills, follow instructor directions, and pay tuition in full before receiving a certificate of completion.
An instructor may deny or restrict participation if a student arrives late, misses required instruction, or can no longer participate safely. A late student who contacted A Step Above Medical before the scheduled class start may use an available transfer under Section 5. A student who did not provide notice before class began may be treated as a no-show.
If a student misses part of a course, A Step Above Medical may allow the student to complete the missed requirements during a future class, subject to space, availability, and instructor approval. One makeup opportunity is available at no additional charge and must be completed within six months of the original class date.
The student must provide notice before a scheduled makeup begins if the student cannot attend. A student who misses a scheduled makeup without timely notice forfeits the makeup opportunity and all tuition and amounts paid.
Additional makeup opportunities, if any, are solely at A Step Above Medical's discretion and may require an additional fee.
Late Arrival
Students are expected to arrive before the scheduled start time and be ready to begin when the course starts. If a student anticipates being late, the student must notify A Step Above Medical before the scheduled start of class by replying to the class email or calling or texting 253-407-8372.
A student arriving within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time may be admitted at the instructor’s discretion, provided the student can safely join the course without disrupting instruction or missing essential safety or procedural information. Admission is not guaranteed.
The instructor may deny admission to a student arriving more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time. The instructor or administrator may approve an exception when circumstances warrant it, and the missed instruction can be completed safely without disrupting the class.
Students must complete all required course instruction and participation requirements to receive a Certificate of Completion. Late arrival, early departure, or missed instructional content may prevent successful course completion.
If a student is denied admission because of late arrival, we will handle any transfer, rescheduling, refund, or forfeiture under the applicable cancellation, rescheduling, and no-show policies. Notification before the scheduled start time does not guarantee admission, but we will consider it when determining available options.
This policy applies to both the Phlebotomy Training Course and the IV Therapy Training Course. For the two-day Phlebotomy Training Course, it applies separately to both required course days.
10. Hands-On Participation and Safety
Hands-on training involves inherent risks, including accidental needlesticks, bruising, bleeding, fainting, infection, allergic reactions, and other injuries. Students must follow all safety procedures and instructor directions.
Each student must review and sign the Participation Agreement, Liability Release, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnification before attending class. A student who does not sign may not attend or participate and cannot receive a Certificate of Completion.
If a student chooses not to sign after registering, the cancellation and transfer terms in Sections 4 and 5 apply. The Phlebotomy Training deposit does not become refundable solely because the student declines to sign.
The Phlebotomy Training Course includes live venipuncture practice conducted under strict supervision. Students practice with one another under the instructor's direct supervision. All live venipuncture practice is subject to the instructor's discretion and safety requirements.
If you have a medical condition or concern that may affect your participation in live venipuncture, you may speak privately with the instructor. This does not prevent you from attending the course, and the instructor will determine an appropriate approach to your participation.
In IV Therapy Training, live partner practice is optional. A student may use training equipment instead. An instructor may modify, restrict, or stop any activity when reasonably necessary for safety.
11. Student Conduct and Removal
Students must behave professionally and must not interfere with a safe, respectful learning environment.
A Step Above Medical may immediately remove a student for violence, threats, harassment, suspected impairment, refusal to follow safety instructions, intentional misuse of equipment, or unsafe or seriously disruptive conduct. A warning is not required when conduct creates an immediate safety risk.
For less serious conduct, an instructor may issue a warning or give the student an opportunity to correct the behavior.
A student removed for prohibited conduct is not entitled to a refund, transfer, or certificate.
12. Certificates, Certification, Licensure, and Employment
A course completion certificate confirms that the student completed the requirements A Step Above Medical established for that course. It is not itself a professional license or a state or national certification.
Phlebotomy Training may help prepare eligible students for certification examinations, including pathways offered by NHA or NPCT. Examination registration and fees are separate unless expressly stated otherwise. A Step Above Medical does not guarantee examination eligibility, examination passage, certification, licensure, employment, job placement, wages, or employer acceptance.
IV Therapy Training does not expand a participant's legal scope of practice or authorize medication administration. Whether a participant may perform an IV-related procedure depends on the participant's credentials, applicable law, employer policy, and any required supervision or delegation.
Certification, licensing, scope of practice, and employment requirements vary by jurisdiction and employer. Students are responsible for confirming the requirements that apply to their own location, profession, employer, and goals before registering.
13. Photography, Video, and Audio Recording
A Step Above Medical uses a separate optional photo and video release form. Declining that optional release does not affect a student's ability to attend, participate in, or complete the course. These Terms do not, by themselves, give A Step Above Medical permission to use a student's image or recording publicly. If a student signs the optional release, A Step Above Medical may use photographs or recordings for marketing, social media, or other purposes only as authorized by that release.
Students may create a photograph, video, or audio recording during training only with the instructor's advance permission and permission from every identifiable person included.
Even with permission, students may use student-created photographs, video, and audio only for private personal use. They may not be posted or uploaded anywhere on the internet; shared on social media; live-streamed; published; sold; used commercially; sent to anyone not part of the approved private use; or used to copy, teach, reproduce, or distribute course content or materials.
Permission to record may be withdrawn at any time. Recording is never permitted when it could compromise safety, privacy, or the learning environment.
14. Course Materials and Intellectual Property
Course handouts, presentations, graphics, videos, demonstrations, written materials, and other training content are owned by or licensed to A Step Above Medical and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Students may use course materials for their own personal learning. Materials may not be copied, recorded, uploaded, posted, sold, taught from, modified for distribution, or shared with others without prior written permission from A Step Above Medical, except where the law expressly permits the use.
15. Website Information and Third-Party Services
A Step Above Medical works to keep its website and course information accurate but may correct typographical errors, update schedules, and change course details when reasonably necessary. A confirmed registration and these Terms govern if general website content conflicts with a specific written confirmation.
The website may link to third-party websites or use third-party services, including payment processing. A Step Above Medical does not control third-party websites and is not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices, or separate terms.
A third-party payment provider may collect and process payment card information. A Step Above Medical does not intend to store complete payment card numbers on its own systems. Use of personal information is also governed by the A Step Above Medical Privacy Policy.
16. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
Training is educational and is not medical advice, legal advice, employment advice, or a substitute for the policies, supervision, or clinical judgment required in a participant's professional setting.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, A Step Above Medical is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from website use, training participation, travel arrangements, employment decisions, or a student's later use of course information. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
The separate participation and liability form signed before class contains additional terms concerning the inherent risks of hands-on activities. If that form conflicts with these Terms concerning hands-on participation, the more specific provision in the signed form controls to the extent permitted by law.
17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
Before filing a legal claim, the student and A Step Above Medical agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve the concern informally. Students may begin that process by contacting info@astepabovemed.com or 253-407-8372 and describing the concern and requested resolution.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that any mandatory consumer-protection or other nonwaivable law applicable to the student remains in effect.
When legally permitted, any court proceeding concerning these Terms or an A Step Above Medical course must be brought in a court with jurisdiction in Kitsap County, Washington. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not waive any right to bring an eligible claim in small-claims court.
18. General Terms
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
A Step Above Medical's decision not to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive the right to enforce it later.
These Terms, the applicable registration confirmation, the Privacy Policy, and any signed course participation forms constitute the agreement concerning an open-enrollment registration. A separately signed Group Training agreement controls the applicable Group Training engagement.
19. Changes to These Terms
The Terms presented to and accepted by a student when registering generally govern that registration. A Step Above Medical may update these Terms prospectively for future registrations. Updated Terms apply to new registrations beginning on the stated effective date.
Minor corrections, such as spelling, formatting, or contact-information updates, do not require an existing student to accept the Terms again. If A Step Above Medical makes a material change and intends for that change to apply to an existing registration, the company will provide the revised Terms and obtain the student's affirmative acceptance, unless the change is required by law.
If a change is required by law or is reasonably necessary to protect health or safety, A Step Above Medical may apply the change to an existing registration after providing reasonable notice when practicable. No update will retroactively remove a refund, transfer, or other material right a student has already earned unless required by law.
