Training in New Orleans

Both the Phlebotomy Training Course and the IV Therapy Training Course are offered in New Orleans.

The Phlebotomy Training Course is a two-day, beginner-friendly course with no prior healthcare experience required. The IV Therapy Training Course is a four-hour, second-level course, and prerequisites apply.

Classes are kept small so students receive supervised hands-on practice and individual guidance from the instructor.

Important Information for Louisiana Students

Louisiana has state-specific requirements for individuals performing phlebotomy. Unless an employment-based exemption applies, individuals must obtain a Louisiana phlebotomist certificate through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

A Step Above Medical is an approved NHA partner, and our Phlebotomy Training Course qualifies eligible students to take the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician examination. NHA is included on Louisiana's list of approved national certification organizations.

After successfully completing the course and passing the NHA examination, the student must apply separately to the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners for a Louisiana phlebotomist certificate. A Step Above Medical will provide the required course documentation and send an official transcript directly to the Board as part of the student's application process.

Some individuals may qualify for an exemption based on their professional license, scope of practice, employer, supervision, or employment setting. Students should confirm which requirements apply to their intended position.

Completion of the A Step Above Medical course does not automatically provide NHA certification or a Louisiana phlebotomist certificate. Examination eligibility, certification, exemption status, application approval, and certificate issuance are determined by NHA and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
